PRESS RELEASE MARCH 3, 2000

- RALLY - NO NEW DOLPHINS IN STANLEY PARK!

Members and supporters of the Coalition For No Whales In Captivity will hold a protest on Sunday, March 5 at 12:30 pm outside the Vancouver Public Aquarium to urge the Aquarium and the Vancouver Park Board to stop the importation of more whales and dolphins into Stanley Park.

The Aquarium started its unsuccessful search for a new Orca whale three years ago, right after Finna died. With the pending death of Bjossa, the Aquarium might have abandoned its plans to bring Orca whales and might instead be looking for other species of dolphins to perform for tourists in that whale tank.

If the Aquarium is hoping that the public outcry against captivity would be lessened by imprisoning Pacific White-sided dolphins or Bottlenose dolphins instead of Orca whales, they are very wrong.

Regardless of what cetacean species the Aquarium is planning to bring into captivity, Vancouverites will always oppose any whales or dolphins kept in Stanley Park.
