Aquarium Gets New Dolphin
Jul, 23 2005 - 12:00 PM

VANCOUVER(CKNW/AM980) - The Vancouver Aquarium has welcomed its newest arrival.
Her name is 'Laverne,' and the Pacific White-Sided Dolphin is the long-awaited companion for 18-year-old 'Spinnaker' whose former companion 'Whitewings' died in 2002.

Clint Wright, the aquarium's Vice-President of Operations and Animal Management says she could be 'more' than a companion.
"It is possible, she had a calf five years ago, she's about 27 at least so obviously every year that goes by it gets less and less likely that she's going to have a calf.
But hopefully if everything's right and if they get along together and everything goes well, then she may well have a calf.
She's quite capable of having a calf."
Laverne comes from Seaworld San Antonio in Texas.

The dolphin's arrival comes just a week after the death of 'Tuvaq,' the aquarium's youngest Beluga whale.
