Dear All,
Great News!
You may remember that earlier this month, the Vancouver International
Film Festival (VIFF) held their Closing Gala Party inside the Vancouver
Aquarium while we staged a 36 hour caged-protest outside. That night,
protesters handed out anti-dolphin captivity information to approximately
1000 invited guests entering the Aquarium, requesting that they contact
the VIFF Board to urge them to change the venue for next year's event. At
least one hundred of these VIFF patrons took the time to stop and sign
petitions opposing the Aquarium's plan to import more dolphins after
Bjossa is gone.
Well ... Yesterday, a dolphin-friendly delegation which included David
Cadman (1999 Vancouver Mayoral Candidate for COPE), met with the Chairman
and the Director of the VIFF, who at the end of the meeting stated that
they do not expect to be using the Vancouver Aquarium venue for future
VIFF events.
Another victory for Vancouver's captive dolphins! Thanks to all of you
who helped, and a special whale hug for John Mate who lead this victorious
campaign.
