AS WE PREDICTED, THE AQUARIUM SWAPPED
A BELUGA FOR A NEW DOLPHIN
Last week another baby whale died at the Vancouver Aquarium. This
week, the aquarium swapped an adult beluga for a new dolphin. The
same day that the dolphin srrived from SeaWorld, the beluga was
shipped to SeaWorld. It’s business as usual at the aquarium in Stanley
Park.
The aquarium is a public facility located in a public park, and
should therefore be accountable to the public. Vancouverites need
to have a say in the issue of whales in captivity.
Three years ago during Vancouver’s last civic elections, COPE park
board candidates (now elected park commissioners) campaigned to
hold a whale referendum vote. COPE’s election platform claimed to
oppose the continuation of the whale trade in Stanley Park. Vancouverites
elected the 5 COPE park board commissioners to make sure no more
whales and dolphins would be put in captivity in Stanley Park.
Now under their watch, there’s a new dolphin at the aquarium. What’s
the COPE park board going to do about this?.
Let Vancouverites have a say!

Should the Aquarium keep whales in captivity?
